Never. But you should seriously watch your engine power output and airspeed is alive on the early part of the take off roll. High altitude takeoffs even more critical.
Once. Rented a 150, and noticed bad vibration and lack of power. Turned out to be mag/plug leads were shorting.
I aborted a takeoff at Valkaria (X59) once because as I was accelerating down the runway another airplane turned unexpectedly to line up for short final on an intersecting runway. No call. No warning. The better part of valor suggested an abort was preferable to getting airborne and hoping to miss each other.
Having the abort option in mind is always a good idea before advancing the throttle(s) on takeoff.
Yep. When I was 16 flying a DA20 (with my dad as my CFI), I lost oil pressure on the takeoff roll. That's my only real abort besides training.
Plenty of go around and missed approaches though.
During a prop check before take off, I noticed that the Cardinal RG's cowling was shaking a bit more than usual. That caught my attention, but I really wanted to fly. Having clearance to take off, I lined up and throttled up. The engine sounded good and the instruments were good, but after a few seconds acceleration I heard the engine briefly lose speed. That was enough. I wanted to fly, but I didn't want to land in the water treatment plant north of Bergstrom AFB (now an international airport). Turns out a couple of valves had broken.
Too hot 'n high at Samedan (St. Moritz) in fully-laden C172. The numbers said I could but the power didn't come in after standing on the brakes and leaning the mixture. Waited a few hours for the air to cool.
